Glassdome Introduces Groundbreaking Real Data-Based Carbon Emission Management Solution at Hanover Messe
By GlassdomeHanover, Germany (Apr 21, 2023) – Glassdome has revealed a pioneering manufacturing carbon emission management solution based on real data at the 2023 Hanover Messe in Germany. This Product Environmental Footprint solution is the first of its kind in the world.
As leading nations like the European Union (EU) and the United States intensify their greenhouse gas reduction efforts, more stringent carbon emission regulations are being implemented. The EU, for instance, will initiate the Carbon Border Adjustment Mechanism (CBAM) in October, imposing additional costs on imported items like steel, cement, and aluminum based on their carbon emissions. Starting in 2024, automotive battery exporters to the EU must disclose carbon footprint data, influencing their grading and potentially leading to the exclusion of lower-grade products from the supply chain. The EU plans to introduce the Battery Passport regulation in 2026, digitizing the entire battery lifecycle from production to disposal, reuse and recycling.
To adhere to these regulations, exporting companies must have access to Scope 3 carbon emissions data, which constitutes 80% of total emissions. However, the current methods for collecting this data involve sensitive supplier information, posing challenges for both exporters and suppliers. The accuracy of the carbon footprint values obtained through these methods is often low, as they rely on keyed-in values or databases with assumed figures.
Glassdome’s solution, unveiled in Hanover, is the first globally to offer accurate carbon emissions figures based on real data from manufacturing sites. It features Glassdome’s cutting-edge technology that not only automatically collects data on energy, production and quality from manufacturing sites but also ensures data integrity and transparency.
Alternatively, Glassdome’s Product Environmental Footprint ensures the secure transfer of only carbon footprint calculations to the export company, preventing the leakage of sensitive data between the main contractor and partner company, subject to mutual consent.
Glassdome is collaborating with global certification agencies to institutionalize the certification of Product Environmental Footprint solution. This initiative aims to support exporting companies and their Scope 3 partners in complying with environmental regulations without the need for separate third-party certification.
Currently in pilot stages with global battery manufacturers and their suppliers, Glassdome Product Environmental Footprint solution is set to be commercialized in the latter half of this year. It is expected to play a crucial role in helping companies handle carbon emission management and comply with EU regulations in 2024.
Jinki Ham, VP of Glassdome, emphasized the solution’s impact: “With Glassdome’s advanced SaaS technology based on real data, we are poised to resolve the challenges of Scope 3 supply chain carbon emissions management faced by global manufacturers. Our solution will expedite the response to global regulations and facilitate a seamless transition to ESG management.”
